Carburetor Installation and Tuning tips for Boats

1. Clean gasket surfaces and install new base gasket and carburetor, tighten bolts evenly making sure not to over tighten [a little tighter than a spark plug].

2. Make sure you have full throttle opening. adjust as needed. Install a return spring on the throttle linkage

3. Only use liquid Teflon [no tape] install carb fittings but before you hook up your fuel lines flush one gallon of fuel through the lines to clean any dirt out of them.

4. Install all fuel lines securely, prime the bowls and check for any leaks

5. Make sure the boat or car is at running position, boat is in the water and car is level

6. Start the engine and make sure engine timing is set correctly.

7.Tuning the idle area to 2500rpm Check float levels, they should be at the bottom of the sight hole.

8. Set idle fuel pressure 6.5 to 7.5 psi.

9. Idle mixture screws come pre-set but may need to be adjusted slightly, in is leaner and out is richer adjust these screws to get the best idle and always keep these screws even.

10. Checking & adjusting primary jets at the cruising speed. Bring your boat up to 3000-3500rpm or your car up to 50mph, run at this speed for about 3-4 miles, then come back to idle and shut off the engine, remove all spark plugs and adjust primary jets to get the spark plug color you want.

11. Adjust your secondary jets to get the spark plug color you want at wide open thottle. Only run at wide open throttle for 1/4 to 1/2 mile at a time max.

12. After about 5-6 hours your spark plugs should turn a little tan in color, and in 10 hours they should be tan, 20 hours dark tan
